Vale Path Volunteers

Introduction

The Vale Path Volunteers are the footpath maintenance team of the Vale Of White Horse Ramblers  Group.

We carry out maintenance of footpaths in the Vale of White Horse Group’s Area. This stretches from Kennington, Abingdon, Kingston Bagpuize and Faringdon in the north and west to Wantage, the Hendreds, Grove and the villages as far south as the Ridgeway.

Three of us are LANTRA-trained to use our two Stihl brushcutters while the rest use manual secaturs, loppers, rakes, etc, or just bag up the cuttings.

Since its formation in 2012 until the end of 2016 the VPV team has undertaken 39 path clearance sessions, and it is estimated that it has cleared nearly 8 kilometres of path and spent a total of 540 person hours in doing so.

If any member is interested in joining such a team could they contact Jim Parke, who has agreed to act as co-ordinator. Contact him by e-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or by telephone 01865 730664 if you have any queries.

VPV - Autumn 2015

This Autumn the Vale Path Volunteers have undertaken two path clearance projects using their newly acquired Stihl Brushcutter/Strimmer. This powerful machine easily chops and chews its way through any dense growth of nettles, brambles/briars and young blackthorn. At Baulking the nettles were at chin height but the brushcutter made short work of them.
