Our walks programme offer walks that range from 3 mile easy grade strolls to 12 mile moderate grade day walks.
These include walks on Thursdays from regular start points from Abingdon Market Place, Faringdon Market Place (though some walks start from nearby villages on the Number 66 bus route) and Wantage from outside the Bear Hotel. Most walks are leisurely graded and 5 to 6 miles long with walks from Abingdon on the 4th Thursday of the month being moderate graded and longer, 7 to 10 miles.
There are 2 easy grade Strolls from Abingdon each month. These are about 3.5 miles long with no stiles or hills and suitable for those who want a gentler ramble.
Our other walks can be from a variety of locations in the Vale or further afield with plenty of variety, usually on Tuesdays or Saturdays.
Our programmes include themed series of walks such as walking The Thames Path in sections, summer away day walks to great locations and walks with a social event.
In 2015 the Vale group launched a new walking trail called ‘The Vale Way’. A 27 mile trail through the Vale of White Horse from Abingdon to Longcot via Wantage and Faringdon. Many of our walks include sections of this pleasant trail. There are also longer walks on the trail.
This summer’s programme is our busiest yet with a terrific variety of walks in the Vale and beyond.
The programme includes all the regular walks. Our themed walk will be to walk the entire length of the Ridgeway national trail in 8 sections with the possibility for overnight stays on some weekends. Our summer away day is to the magnificent Cheddar Gorge and High Down of the Mendips.
Please come and join on a walk and enjoy our wonderful countryside in good company. You will be most welcome.
