Nature speeded up; see our members’ photos. In early April and early June hats were to keep off the rain (look it up if you’ve forgotten what that is); now they are sun shields. Our Chair, Richard Birch, looks at Ramblers guidance on walking in heatwave conditions. The Green Lanes Environmental Action Movement (GLEAM) has collated videos of byways being ruined by recreational vehicles e.g. 4x4s. You can see the videos, taken by the people who were in the process of causing the damage, by following the link in our article on GLEAM. We also look at the huge improvement to the surface of the Ridgeway National Trail since recreational vehicles were banned from the Trail in Oxfordshire and part of West Berkshire. Ruth Cornish, of Thame & Wheatley Ramblers, led the Day 10 walk of the Thames Path Relay. Finally, we highlight that drinking water is once more available, all year round, on the Ridgeway at Sparsholt Firs.
