Thame & Wheatley
The Thame & Wheatley group was formed in 1997 and currently has around 200 members. With more than 20 walks leaders it contributes walks of all distances to the area programmes, including a regular leisurely short walk on the second Tuesday of each month. We are active in footpath maintenance, including repairing and replacing stiles; we run many social events and have had several successful walking holidays. We communicate with our members through a monthly e-mail.
The group covers some 34 parishes within the Vale of Oxford. The area provides a variety of fascinating features. The Thame Valley Way offers a peaceful rural riverside walk, the Oxfordshire Way cuts through a dozen attractive villages and the Shakespeare's Way also takes in many local parishes.
On the edge of the area the Chiltern Hills and Shotover Country Park afford challenging hill climbs with superb views. Local footpaths also provide access to many historic sites, including Rycote Park and Chapel, the Saxon church of Waterperry House and the grounds of Shotover House.
We offer a warm welcome to all newcomers.
